Lunar Eclipse

by Stephen Mead

Earth's shadow:
sweet fish in sea of space
& changing the phases all in one night-----
My how the sky receives this
easy as a magician's handkerchief
dyed with the stars stitched in as camouflage.
Perceive such nature as though another's lips
closed lids but one's gaze felt right through that.
Touch as X-ray.  Sight as probes,
& every planet there, an audience pulsing
in empathy & in awe.
They too have invisible fins, whirr & turn.
They too, suns bobbing through black tides,
glow & wait.
